Let's Talk: Hair

You probably see all sorts of shampoo or conditioner ads that claim to fix split ends, but let's start by acknowledging the fact that the only way to fix split ends is to cut them off. You can't mend split ends, but you can trim them away and give the hair a chance to grow out again under more favorable conditions.
On the other hand, you can prevent split ends to some extent by keeping your hair from drying out. The main causes of split ends are time and dryness. Drying and aging hair tends to become brittle and break: keeping it in good shape can hold split ends at bay longer than usual, so treating your hair with kindness is a good rule.
Eventually, all hair will develop split ends if it isn't cared for properly. Most hair experts recommend getting a trim every 6-8 weeks, so ends don't have a chance to dry out and split. The beauty of your hair really shows when it's shiny, glossy and thick. Keeping the tips trimmed is protection from further damage: split ends tend to work their way up the hair shaft as it sustains further damage over time. The solution to split ends is to act quickly: don't skip the trip to the salon, or get your hair stylist to teach you how to trim your own hair if you don't like to go in that often.
Don't mistake frizzies for split ends. If your hair looks frumpy or frowsy, the ends might be just fine, but the hair shaft is roughed up from humidity in the air or dryness from harsh shampoos. If you've had your ends trimmed but still see a fuzzy halo around your hair, try using one of the new hair smoothing treatments. Usually consisting of a solution of dimethicone, these smoothers add a gloss to your hair that makes it shiny and more manageable. They don't really do anything to nourish or improve your hair, but they coat the hair the same way furniture polish makes your tables look shiny, and they wash out with each shampoo.

Tips: Get Those Feet Ready for Spring!

It is never to early to start getting our feet ready to slip into our favorite pair of sandal or flipflops! Here are a few tips I have found on the web: Light Up the Beach If you’re beach bound, choose a vibrant red or bright pink nail color for toes. Pales tend to turn yellow or fade when exposed to sand and UV rays, even with a sun-protecting top coat. Soften Up For Sandals Drizzle warm body oil on heels and wrap in cotton gauze for 15 minutes to reveal the softest, sexiest, most sandal-perfect heels ever. Try SSS Bath Oil. Moisturize Use a thick, rich foot cream to max out the moisture for softer summer feet. Use a thick, rich foot cream to max out the moisture for softer summer feet. Moisturize your feet from your toes to your calves with a good quality lotion or cream. Use a moisturizer specifically designed for feet for the softest summer feet. Take a moment to really rub it in well and let your skin suck it up. I have a great deal coming this week that will have your feet looking great for just 12.00!! (here is a clue-includes 3 great products and a pair of flipflops-you cant beat that!) Email me for more information (kdrich10@hotmail.com), remember you don't have to be local, we ship all over the US!!

Tips: Shelflife of Cosmetics

One of my most commonly asked questions is, "How long is my makeup 'good'?" Here are some good 'know when to throw' tips found in an article from iVillage.co.uk by Eva Gizowska: Mascara Shelf Life: Three-six months Mascaras should always be used fairly quickly once they're opened because they're easily contaminated by the pumping action of the brush. This can force bacteria further into the container where the moist, wet environment is ideal for bacteria to thrive. Tips · Stick to one mascara and use it regularly so you finish it within a few months. This is far better than alternating between a number of different mascaras, which means you keep them longer and increase the risk of contamination. · Never add water or other liquid to mascara to keep it from drying out, as this can cause the preservative to become diluted and therefore offer less protection against germs. · Never share mascara, as this is the most common way to pass on eye infections such as conjunctivitis. · Don't use the same mascara if you've just had an eye infection, and buy a new one to minimise your chances of the infection coming back. · Don't use saliva to moisten mascara. The bacteria from your mouth may get into the mascara, which can encourage bacteria to grow and cause infection. · Always wash your hands before applying mascara to cut down the risk of passing on bacteria with your hands. · Keep mascara in a clean place. Don't let it come into contact with dust or dirt that may harbour harmful bacteria. Moisturiser Shelf Life: Three-12 months Moisturisers should be used up quickly, especially ones that contain essential oils and botanicals (check ingredients on the label). The best idea is to buy one moisturiser at a time and use it everyday. This is more important with natural ingredients such as plant extracts that can quickly lose their efficacy after a certain time and go off. Check the use-by date if you're not sure when yours should be chucked. Tips · Use one moisturiser for the day and one for the night, and use them one at a time. It's a common mistake to buy three or four similar products, open them all and alternate using them. Chances are you won't use them all within the allotted time and they'll end up going off. · Throw a product away the moment it starts to change colour, smell off or the oils and fats begin to separate, which you'll be able to see. · Keep out of direct sunlight and heat. · Try not to stick your fingers in the pot if you can help it, as this decreases the chance of introducing unwanted bacteria into the product. Use a clean, plastic spatula or a spoon instead. Foundation Shelf Life: Oil-Free Foundation (12 months); Moisturising, Cream or Compact Foundation (18 months) Again, it's a good idea to use foundation quickly. Oil-free ones have the shortest shelf life because they tend to dry out quicker than other types. Tips · Throw foundation away if it starts to look or smell different or if ingredients start to separate. · Ideally, always wash the sponges (in compact foundation, for example) at least once a week. Use soapy water and allow to dry naturally. Make sure the sponge is completely dry before placing back into the container or compact, or this could encourage mould to grow. · If you want to prolong shelf life by a few months, keep your foundation in the fridge. Otherwise store it in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. · Be extremely careful when using foundation near broken or infected skin. Scoop a small amount onto a plastic dish with a spatula, then put the container away so you don't accidentally contaminate the pot. Use a medicated formulation or concealer on the affected area. · If available, choose a foundation in a tube or pump dispenser. These are good because the product can't slip back into the container after it has been exposed to air. The risk of contamination with bacteria is therefore greatly reduced. Powder Shelf Life: Two years Although powder will actually last longer, two years is the longest you should really keep it. After that, it can start to get a bit dry and, in the case of pressed powder, it may not go on as smoothly. This is unavoidable, as powder mixes with natural skin oils left on the sponge. As a general rule, loose powder can last up to three years in the right conditions. Tips · Wash sponges or brushes at least once a week. Either use soap and warm water or invest in a brush cleaner solution, available at most department stores. Concealer Shelf Life: 12-18 months Stick concealer lasts the longest of any type. You can tell it's had its day when it starts to get dry and no longer goes on smoothly. Liquid based concealers may start to separate or go lumpy when they're going off. Tips · Always wipe the brush after using if the concealer comes in a wand and brush package, especially if you're trying to cover a spot that may harbour bacteria. These concealers are more easily contaminated than stick ones, because they 'feed' bacteria back into the container. · Ideally, use a stick or pump dispenser concealer on spots and pimples. Blusher Shelf Life: Powder Blush (two years); Cream Blush (12-18 months) After two years, powder blushers may start to get a bit dry or develop a 'slippery' texture, caused by mixing with natural oils from skin. Also, once the colour changes it's no longer in its prime. Cream blushes have a shorter shelf life because they contain more emulsions, which are less stable and break down over time. However, you'll find you use these more quickly anyway. Tips · Wash blusher brush and sponge once a week or more often if they look dirty. · Wash hands before applying cream blush. Eyeshadow Shelf Life: Powder Eyeshadow (two years); Cream Eyeshadow (12-18 months) Powder eyeshadows can last for ages because they are mainly pigmented pressed powder. Cream eyeshadows have a shorter shelf life because, like cream blushes, they use emulsions that break down over time. Tips · Wash brushes and applicators at least once or twice a week or more if you are using one applicator to apply different shades. · Wash hands if using fingers to apply. · Do not use eyeshadow if you have an eye infection, as this may aggravate the area and make the problem worse. Also, you may unwittingly pass the bacteria on to the rest of the eyeshadow with the applicator or your finger. Eyeliner and lipliner Shelf Life: two years Eyeliner and lipliners are the workhorses of cosmetics. They last for ages because sharpening them regularly goes a long way in preventing bacterial growth. Tips · Throw away eyeliner if you have an eye infection. · Do not use a lipliner if you have a cold sore. · Do not share eyeliner or lipliners. · Keep out of sunlight and heat. Lipstick Shelf Life: two years Lipsticks are generally quite long lasting because of the way the pigment and fat are formulated together. Don't be put off if tiny bubbles appear on the surface - these are just moisture drops and can be wiped off. Tips · Bin it if the lipstick feels dry, scratchy or changes colour. · Never use lipstick if you have a cold sore. Throw it out if you accidentally use it on a cold sore, otherwise it may spread. · Don't share lipsticks · If you use a lip brush, wash it at least once a week. Lipgloss Shelf Life: 18 months-two years Lipgloss isn't as long lasting as lipstick because it is formulated in a different way. Tips · Wash hands if you are using your finger to apply. · Wash the lip brush at least once a week. · Don't use if you have a cold sore. Fragrance Shelf Life: 18 months-two years Fragrances carry little risk of becoming contaminated because they usually contain alcohol, which is a natural preservative. Tips · Prolong the shelf life by keeping the fragrance in the fridge. · Keep it out of direct sunlight, and preferably in its box. · Store it in moderate temperature, as fragrance will go off quicker if kept in warm conditions. · Throw away if it changes colour (especially if it goes darker) or starts to smell differently. · Remember that fragrance is a common cause of allergies and irritations. If you notice any odd reaction, stop using it. As a general rule of thumb, try to keep all cosmetics in their shop wrapping if you don't need to use them right away. You will extend the shelf life, as there is no exposure to air.

A little history on Avon

I knew about Avon for many years but did not know much on the history of Avon so I found a few things on the internet to share, Found on ideafinder: "Avon was strictly an American phenomenon, and a unique and pioneering one at that. The first Avon Lady was actually a man, young door-to-door salesman David McConnell from upstate New York. He launched Avon Calling in 1886, offering women cosmetics in the comfort and privacy of their own homes. But perfumes and hand-cream were not McConnell’s initial merchandise. At the age of sixteen, McConnell had begun selling books door-to-door. When his fare was not well received, he resorted to the then-popular advertising Gimmick of offering a free introductory gift in exchange for being allowed to make a sales pitch. A complimentary vial of perfume, he thought, would be an ideal entree, and he blended the original scent himself, with the aid of a local pharmacist. Fate stepped in. McConnell learned that women adored his perfume and remained indifferent to his books. Thus, he abandoned books and organized the New York-based California Perfume Company, named in honor of a friend and investor from California. The door-to-door approach seemed tailor-made for cosmetics, particularly in rural areas, where homemakers, in horse-and-buggy days, had poor access to better stores. The first female Avon Lady was Mrs. P. F. E. Albee, a widow from Winchester, New Hampshire. She began her chime-ringing career selling the company s popular Little Dot Perfume Set, and she recruited other women, training them as door-to-door salespeople. The company was re-christened Avon for the simple reason that the New York State town in which David McConnell lived, Suffern on the Ramapo, reminded him of Shakespeare’s Stratford-on-Avon. By 1887, McConnell had twelve women employees selling a line of eighteen fragrances. And the numbers kept growing and growing. In 1939, California Perfume Company name changed to Avon Products, Inc. (10/6/39.) Today, despite the scores of expensive, prestigious American and foreign brand-name cosmetics, Avon ranks first in sales nationwide, with Avon Ladies ringing doorbells from coast to coast." I would love to be your Avon Lady so come on over and do a little spring shopping with me! :) (you dont have to be local, we ship throughout the US) Free shipping to your door with code FSANY

Product Review: Foot Works Pedi Peel

I love to take care of my toes! I think because my hands are not an option, I am in water/cleaner/kid product all day so I focus on the feet. Living in south TX ,I have taken to wearing flip flops a good part of the year and that has made my heels look horrible! I cant afford getting a pedi all the time and honestly it kind of scares me putting my feet in the same tub as so many other so when I discovered that Avon has a whole line of products for foot care I was excited to try it out! The line is called 'Foot Works' and it has products like foot soak, sprays, soaps, exfoliating products and so on. The one that caught my eye was the pedi peel pads- I mean my heels are so bad I will try anything and at 4.99 the price was right. Here is what it says about pedi peel pads:
"A fast-acting, retexturizing treatment with glycolic acid to refine and smooth rough, callused surfaces and moisturizers to help soften dry skin" and it is also a beauty insiders choice finalist.
I get the product and wipe my heels and honestly think is this just water I am using? Oh well, I will keep using it just in case one day is not enough and it does work!! I have noticed a big difference in my heels and I don't have to use my ped egg as much as before. I love this product and will keep plenty around the house. It does not get easier, just take one pad per heel and rub in, wait until dry and you are on your way to smoother heels! Not quite sure about it yet? Go on over to my webstore and read more reviews from others who have tried it. If you would like to order email me for savings on shipping!

Lipstick Tips!

Here are some great tips for those lips! "A beauty tip I've always sworn by is to pick your best feature and play it up. If you are complimented often on your lips, consider yourself lucky, it's time to play them up." Here's 15 tips on how to apply lipstick:
Don't play up the eyes and the mouth Women who wear heavy eye makeup and dark lipstick can look clownish. If you want to wear red lipstick, keep the rest of your makeup light. If you are playing up the eyes, keep your mouth light with a gloss or light lip color that doesn't stand out.
For "plump" lips, apply liner just outside your natural lipline. Dab a bit of gloss in the middle of your bottom lip.
How to apply lipstick? I don't believe in rules to applying lipstick. Some women use special lipstick brushes (pictured here). I own one and never, ever use it. Others use their middle finger (I once said this was a beauty faux pas and got reamed by a reader, I have since changed my mind). Most women apply right from the tube. Choose what's right for you, as long as the color gets on the lips, you're good.
Use liner on your lips as a base. Lipstick will last longer if you fill in your lips with the liner first. If you're using light lipstick, try a nude liner. Then slick your lipstick on top. Lip gloss is infamous for wearing off fast, but if you fill in lips first with the liner, the gloss has something to stick to.
You can line before or after you apply lipstick or gloss. Some women prefer to apply liner first, arguing that you won't be able to see the natural line of your lips if you apply lipstick first. But I find lips look more natural when I line lips after I apply lipstick.
Never use a dark liner with light lipstick. Defined lips are great, but make sure the liner matches the lipstick or gloss. Dark liner and light lips is tacky.
Never use a test lipstick on your lips. It's just plain unhygienic. Instead, test lipstick on your fingertips. It's a closer fit to your lips than the back of your hand. Don't throw out a bad color lipstick. Beauty editors know you can create a great lipcolor by blending lipsticks you don't like. You can also color in lips with a darker liner before applying a lipstick that's too bright.
Keep lipstick off glass. Discreetly lick your lips before taking a sip from a glass. It works!
Keep lipstick off your teeth with this trick. After applying lipstick, take your index finger and pop it in your mouth, then pull it out. The excess lipstick will come off on your finger rather than your teeth.
Lipstick can act as a blush. But never use blush as a lipstick.
The older you are, the "creamier" your lips should look. If your lips are thinned out and wrinkled, avoid matte or a gloss and stick with a creamy lipstick.
Not all lipstick shades look good on everyone.Your skin color will determine what shades are right on you. You may like a lipstick on your friend, but it may not look good on you. Orange or brown shades, including corals, look good on few people. These shades tend to make teeth appear yellow.
Camouflage yellowed teeth. To downplay a yellow cast to teeth, try lipsticks with a bluish undertone. Shades that work include plums, pinks, wines and violets, according to Lazarus, a NYC makeup artist, in the June, 2007, issue of O magazine.
Heal -- don't throw out -- a broken lipstick. If your lipstick breaks off, simply take off the broken portion with a tissue, then slowly wave a lit match under the broken piece of lipstick. When it's melted a bit, put it back on the base, swivel it down and put it in the fridge -- uncovered -- for 30 minutes.
Lipstick done? You might notice there's still a bit of lipstick down in the tube. Scrape out the last bits with a cotton swap or orange stick and mix it with Vaseline or lip gloss in a lipstick palette. Use a lip brush to apply. I also love this tip shared by reader Patti Campbell. She scoops out the lipstick remnants from the bottoms of her tubes and she puts them in a pill case, "the one with the days of the week individually capped." She then nukes the pill case until the lipstick melts. Campbell uses a lip brush and enjoys seven new lipsticks. I would think this is perfect for the purse.

How to Correct 8 Common Beauty Mistakes

I found these tips online and I am passing them on, I am guilty of making a few 'common beauty mistakes' :) 1. Common Mistake: Over medicating Blemishes Ack! You have a breakout. So you blast it with a spot cream. Then, for good measure, you douse it again. "Most of these treatments contain acids that penetrate the skin for hours after they are applied." "Overuse can result in a burn that causes redness, peeling, and irritation." A better way: Follow the directions on the medication's package; most say to use it once or twice a day. Avoid drying out your skin. 2. Common Mistake: Bathing or Showering Until Your Body and Hair Feel "Squeaky Clean" The sound may be satisfying, but it also indicates that―either by staying too long in the shower or bath or by scrubbing too vigorously―you've removed the natural oils and lipids that seal in moisture and protect your skin and hair. A better way: First, evaluate your tools and products: A loofah sponge or a medicated shampoo may be stripping your skin and hair. In general, try to limit your shower or bath time to 10 minutes or less and use warm, not hot, water. 3. Common Mistake: Using Moisturizer to Reduce Puffiness Around the Eyes. A salty diet, among other things, can cause fluid retention around the eyes. Step away from the eye cream! Hydrating ingredients hold water in the skin, so moisturizers and eye creams may make your eyes look even puffier. A better way: If the skin around your eyes is puffy but not red, irritated, or itchy, apply a cold compress or an ice pack for 10 to 15 minutes. You could also follow up with a lightweight eye gel containing caffeine. If your eye area is puffy, red, irritated, or itchy, see a dermatologist. You may have an allergic rash. 4. Common Mistake: Neglecting Your NeckWhen you take care of your face, don't stop at the chin: The skin on your neck can be thinner and more sensitive than the skin on your face and just as prone to changes in pigment, elasticity, and texture―and, yes, to wrinkles. A better way: When applying sunscreen to your face, keep going, covering your neck and even your chest. (Spread some on the backs of your hands, too―another vulnerable area.) Your day and night face moisturizers, as well as most treatment creams, should work just as well on your neck. But if you use products containing alpha hydroxy acids or retinols, do a spot-test first. 5. Common Mistake: Plucking Eyebrows Too Close to the MirrorWhen you're focused on every little hair, you don't keep track of the shape of the entire eyebrow. The result? Thin or uneven brows. A better way: Find a large mirror near a window, then step back a few feet to survey your face. Brows should be in proportion to your face shape and the placement and size of your features. Move closer to the mirror and begin tweezing. Step back after every few hairs to check the symmetry of your brows. 6. Common Mistake: Spraying on Perfume After You Are DressedPerfume can stain fabric, and fabric fibers can make perfume smell unpleasant. "Fragrance is formulated to be applied to the skin, where it interacts with the heat of the body". A better way: Before dressing, lightly dab or spray it onto the skin at one or two of the "pulse points"―knees, wrists, base of the throat, and behind the earlobes. And don't rub your wrists together. This breaks down a perfume's molecular structure. 7. Common Mistake: Applying Foundation Without Giving Moisturizer Time to DryThe creaminess of a moisturizer can cause makeup to thin out if the moisturizer hasn't had enough time to soak into the skin. "This can result in blotchiness and ultimately limit the amount of coverage your foundation can offer throughout the day. A better way: Wait 60 seconds, until the moisturizer is absorbed. Or, if you're short on time, blot your face with a tissue after moisturizing, then apply foundation. 8. Common Mistake: Using Conditioner All Over Your Hair. Most people apply conditioner as they do shampoo: starting at the top of the head and working it all through the hair. But the hair closest to the roots is healthy new growth; it's the ends that are older and more likely to be damaged. Apart from wasting product, conditioning the roots can weigh your hair down and make it look greasy. A better way: Starting at your ears, apply conditioner all the way to the ends. You will gain volume and won't have to wash your hair as often.

Helpful Hints: Beautiful Nails

Your hands are always on display and if your like me nail care can fall down on the 'to do' list when short on time. Here are a few helpful tips I found online that are easy to do and are not time consuming. *A hand massage will boost your circulation and encourage nail growth and is the perfect way to pamper yourself. This can be done simply by choosing your favorite lotion and as little as a minute of hand rubbing. *Try not to remove and reapply polish more than once or twice a week, as it will dry out your nails. Choosing a remover with built in moisturisers will help limit the damage. *Apply nail varnish remover before doing your nails even if don't need to remove any old polish, it prepares the nails by removing any grease so that your polish will last longer. *When there is no time for polish, just clean underneath the nails, rub on a buffing cream, and shine them with a chamois buffer

Product Review: Silicone Glove Hand Creme

Since I have started with Avon I want to try as many products as I can so that I can give first hand knowledge/experience of the products. High on my personal list is lotion. You see I am a bit of a lotion snob, always on the look out for the best lotion. I cant use just any lotion-I dont want a greasy feel and I cant tolerate a strong smelling lotion and I prefer a body creme because they tend to be a little thicker. Avon offers a lot of lotions, the most popular being those in the Skin So Soft line and they are nice but I had the chance to try one called Avon Basics Silicone Glove Hand Creme and I love it!! *okay I hear you thinking would she really tell us if she didnt like the products and yes I would. Why? Because this is my blog and my thoughts and even though I would love to have you as a client I am not one to push every product to make every sale. I value honesty and if I have tried it I will tell you honestly tell you what I think.* Okay back to my review. It passed my two top issues-no greasy feel, no bad smell. (There is a smell to it, reminds me of a light baby lotion smell, not unpleasant at all) I am a mommy and my hands are always in water or doing household chores and after using it a couple of days my hands are feeling softer, now this product claims to last even through hand washing and I am not sure how much I agree with a statement like that but I also have dryer than normal hands. I do reapply after washing right now but maybe after a few more uses it will build more of a barrier against dryness. After reading the reviews of the products by others on my webstore I only see two that didn't rate this product highly and the first reason was the smell-they would like it to be fragrance free and the other felt it was sticky. If you try this lotion or have used it before I would love to hear what you think!

Did you Know?? Avon for Men

Avon is not just for ladies, we have many wonderful products for the man in your life. There is fragrance of course but beyond that we have deodorant, body wash, and shaving products. Avon even has 'McDreamy'! Patrick Dempsey and Avon came together in 2008 to create a signature men's fragrance and he will be actively involved in every aspect of the project. Dempsey says- "This is an extremely exciting opportunity for me to work with Avon -- a brand I have long respected as a global powerhouse with a lot of heart and soul," said Dempsey. "The brand reaches every corner of the globe with more than just high quality products -- it creates economic empowerment for women through its earning opportunity, and has an excellent reputation for corporate philanthropy through their Avon Foundation. My wife Jillian has enjoyed her experience working with Avon, and I look forward to joining the family as well."

Lets Talk Skin Type

It is important to know your skin type because it is the first step in choosing proper skin care. There are 5 types of skin: Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination and Problem Skin. Normal: The skin is soft, supple and smooth. It is fine-textured and free of blemishes (with the exception of periodic blemishes). It has a nice glow and never feels oily or dry. Less than twenty percent of women have this skin type. If this is your skin type you are fortunate; however, this does not mean that you shouldn’t take care of it. Dry: This type of skin too, has a fine texture and is transparent looking. It feels tight and drawn without moisturizer and tends to have fine lines around the eyes and mouth. It feels especially dry after washing and may have whiteheads around the eyes and dry patches. This type of skin needs proper care because it shows signs of aging early. Oily: The oily complexion is greasy, sallow and coarse. It has large pores and tends to have pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Within hours of washing the oiliness will reappear and makeup is usually absorbed quickly. Combination: This type of skin is oily in the T zone and the rest of the face is dry. The T zone is the forehead, nose and chin. The extent to which both areas are dry and oily may vary; however, both areas require a separate cleaning routine to restore them to balance. Problem Skin: Problem skin is usually oily and has a coarse texture and is subject to acne. It has large pores, blackheads, red blotches and may become more irritated under stress. If the problem is serious it will require the assistance of a dermatologist. Here is a little quiz I found to help identify your skin type. It is taken from the "Color Me Beautiful Makeup Book" by Carole Jackson. 1. Do You Break Out? A. Rarely B. Occasionally C. Frequently 2. Do You Have Blackheads? A. Few or none B. Some in the T-zone C. Problem3. What Do Your Pores Look Like? A. Nearly invisible B. Visible in the T-zone C. Enlarged 4. After washing with soap, how does your skin look & feel in ONE hour, without a moisturizer? A. Dry & Tight B. Slightly thight for the first half hour, comfortable or with some oil in T-zone by the end of an hour C. Oily in half an hour; shiny nose and forehead in one hour. 5. What is your coloring? A. Very fair; Fair B. Fair to Medium C. Olive to Dark 6. Do you have facial lines? A. Some around eyes, lips & forehead B. A few around eyes C. None or Very few 7. How does your skin respond to the sun? A. Burn easily B. Usually burn first, then tan gradually C. rarely burn, tan easily Interpreting your answers: Mostly "A" answers ... Dry and possibly Sensitive skin. Mostly "B" answers... normal/combination skin Mostly "C" answers... oily and possibly acne prone skin It IS possible to have a mix of ANY of these.. but ONE category will AWAYS be dominant.. although that dominant feature can and WILL change over the years.

Shop Talk: Skin So Soft

For most people one of the things that comes to mind when thinking AVON is their original Skin So Soft oil. It is something I remember my mom using on me when I was a kid. She always said that it would help keep the bugs away while we played outside and it did! I also really love the scent of the original oil. I know many people don't like to use an oil on their skin so I thought I would share some other uses for Skin So Soft, the ideas on this list come directly from our customers. PERSONAL USES: 1. It's a bath oil and after shower moisturizer. 2. It can be used to remove makeup. 3. Great tanning oil (no sunscreen). 4. Hot oil treatment to soften cuticles. 5. Great massage oil for tired muscles. 6. Cleans off tape marks left from bandages on skin. 7. Cleans ink off the skin. 8. Insect repellent. -mom was not the only one who thought this :) 9. Helps relieve itching caused by dry skin. 10. Cleans oil and grease off of skin. 11. Painting something? Use Skin-So-Soft to remove paint from the hands. (Instead of turpentine). 12. It soothes light sunburn. 13. Rub hands with it before washing, it helps get them cleaner. 14. Rub on dry, cracked skin....helps heal skin in 2-3 days. 15. Put 1-2 caps full in liquid soap and use it for shaving legs and under arms. Helps razor glide and leaves skin feeling smooth. 16. Pour a little into your Foot Saver to help moisturize your feet while you relax them. 17. It removes chewing gum from hair, skin, and most non-pour us surfaces. 18. Cleans permanent ink off stamps.-I am a crafter and will be using this! :) 19. SSS Original Bath Oil works GREAT on Head Lice!!!!! Saturate head and let it set for 15 minutes. Then rinse under an outdoor faucet, but the lice were gone!!!!!!! Of course shampoo hair a couple of times to get the oil out, but the lice were gone and stayed gone! 20. It kills ants instantly. 21. Spray on skin to relieve dry itching skin. Helps skin retain it's elasticity. 22. Wash hair with shampoo and conditioner like always and after it dries....Use about the size of a dime of SSS and rub it in your hair. It goes straight in and leaves hair as shiny as the ads on TV, not greasy at all, just soft and shiny. 23. Use bath oil towelettes -- cover window sill with towelettes to keep ants out. 24. Bath use, fill bath water and a little skin so soft, very relaxing and helps get rid of dry skin. 25. This is to let the readers know about something that helped me for a mild case of psoriasis on my elbows. My internist recommended that I try Avon's Skin-So-Soft bath oil spray. I did and it eliminated the psoriasis on my elbows.

Monday: Musings on Moisturizers

Moisturizers act as a barrier to water loss through evaporation. Moisturizers will keep you looking younger with smoother skin. No matter what age you are, no matter what skin type you have, skin moisturizers are very important to your epidermal well-being. When it comes to your skin you should always use moisturizers. The skin is an organ that will respond to liquids and lotions, creams and gels. Everyone needs moisturizer, even if you have oily skin. Tinted moisturizers are available if you feel you are too pale. Moisturizers are available for all skin types. Listen to your skin and if it doesn't retain enough water, the skin will feel tight and dry and in need of some moisturizer. Pay attention to and pamper your face. With the seasons constantly changing, besides drinking plenty of water, be sure to feed your skin moisture. Facial moisturizers keep the skin healthy and protect it from dryness in several ways. First they attract moisture deep into the skin cells, which keeps them juicy and plump. Second, they seal the moisture in with an occlusive coating and third, they help fill in the gaps between the skin cells, which keeps the skin's function holding strong and firm. Moisturizers do not prevent wrinkles unless they contain sunscreen. Moisturizers come in various types, balms and creams are the thickest and greasiest; oils and lotions are lighter and more fluid; gels are clear or translucent and the lightest of all. A general rule of thum is the thicker the texture, the more oil; the thinner the texture, the more water (unless the product itself is an oil.) The best time to apply moisturizer is right after you wash or shower, when the skin is damp and the moisturizer can seal in the moisture. MOISTURIZING our skin is essential to maintain that 'young, beautiful' look. On another note, is it necessary to moisturize all areas of your skin? The answer is NO. Many models actually go to private 'beauty' classes to learn how, when and where to moisturize their skin. So, know your skin type, don't be afraid to try many products before settling on one. ~Do not over moisturize as it can lead to clogged pores. Your forehead and cheeks tend to be the drier areas. There is no need to moisturize your chin if it is not needed. ~Most women misdiagnose their skin type. This can cause improper moisturizing. You also need to change your techniques of moisturizing with the changes of seasons. ~When using a moisturizer, always apply it to the skin in a circulatory motion. Pat your skin with the tips of your fingers gently as if playing a tune on a piano. This is also a great stimulant for your skin. ~Use a moisturizer as a base before applying your foundation. For best results, wait until the moisturizer is dry and then apply foundation. However, if your foundation is somewhat dry, then apply it right away, your moisturizer will help it to loosen up a bit. ~To get the best results from any of your facial products, rub it between your hands, this helps to heat it up, and hence, becomes easier to apply. (source of article:ultimate-cosmetics.com) I offer many different types of moisturizer through my webstore with reviews from customers. Right now I am trying the Anew Hydra-Radiance, I will let you know what I think :)

1st post-what is this blog about?

I am starting this new blog for a couple of reasons (at least I say that now, it is subject to change) 1) to post information on things regarding beauty. This could be articles, tips, features on people, Q&A, products and more. 2) to help me learn and promote my venture into AVON. When I say that this blog will be about beauty I don't mean just physical beauty. I think that we all have beauty or that there is something beautiful about every person. Even those that don't feel that they are stunning (myself included) most can usually agree that there is a feature we have that is very appealing. I want to explore the different ways that allow us to feel good about ourselves. Along the way I would love to have suggestions so feel free to help out and tell me about what you think, suggest an article, a product, another blogger-I am open! Thanks for stopping in :)
